After a year of uncertainty and delayed events, the Tokyo Olympics finally arrived at long last!
When the Tokyo Olympics were delayed to 2021 in March 2020, it meant that the athletes competing in the games would have to wait another year to compete. They would also have another year to train.
These athletes have trained their whole lives for this moment, this chance at Olympic glory. Now, after coming off of a year of uncertainty and showing unquestionable resilience and strength, these athletes now got the chance to obtain the Olympic glory that have long dreamed of and long worked for.
Simone Biles showed her strength by putting her mental health first and stepping down from competition when she didn't feel 100 percent about her mental health. That took real strength and courage to be able to go through with. Biles received heaps of praise from various celebrities, fellow athletes, and fans for her courage. This also reopened the conversation on athletes mental health.
The United States won the overall medal count on the last day and got the most gold medals as well with 39.
No matter what the medal count was for each country, the whole world showed strength, poise, and determination during the Tokyo Olympics. during an ongoing pandemic. faced with adversity, the world and its athletes put on a great showing at the Summer Olympics.
