Movie Review - Space Jam: A New Legacy

The long-awaited sequel to the original Space Jam was finally released in theaters on July 16, 2021.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is a movie for the whole family to go see! Starring LeBron James, Don Cheadle, Zendaya, and the Looney Tunes, this family friendly sports comedy is a slam dunk from start to finish.

The movie features NBA superstar LeBron James attempting to reach his youngest son, Dom, through basketball. Meanwhile, Dom, has dreams of becoming a video game developer rather than a basketball player like his dad wants him to be. LeBron and Dom eventually meet Al-G Rhythm in the server room of Warner Bros. Studios and get sucked into virtual reality. Enamoured by Al-G's universe, Dom sees Al-G as a friend. With Dom, under his spell, Al-G challenges LeBron to a basketball game and if LeBron wins, he gets his son back. If Al-G wins, LeBron stays in virtual reality forever. The plot is similar to that of the first Space Jam film.

Don Cheadle's role as Al-G Rhythm was played well by the actor. A character that has felt unappreciated and without praise in the movie, Cheadle displays the neglected character near-perfectly. Don Cheadle was the perfect choice to play Al-G Rhythm.

While the sequel may not be better than the original in many people's eyes, this movie was way better than some people make it out to be. The many references to various Warner Bros. owned properties such as Harry Potter, DC Comics, Game of Thrones, and various other Warner Bros. owned properties added green flavor to the movie. It was even more amazing when Rick and Morty showed up with the Tasmanian devil.

There was a lot of product placement in he movie, which almost made it seem like a huge advertisement. Nevertheless, the movie was outright hilarious.

The lesson taught in the movie to always be yourself is a great lesson that everyone should follow.
