Throughout the years, the Olympic Games have helped new competitors gain more exposure and fans from around the world by seeing them excel in their craft on the Olympic stage.

One of those athletes in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games was 18-year-old Suni Lee from Minnesota.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Suni Lee came away with three Olympic medals. She won gold in the All-Around event, silver in the team event, and bronze in the uneven bars event. During the team event, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Grace McCallum gave a notable performance during the event. Suni Lee stepped in for Simone Biles, the greatest gymnast of all time, after Biles withdrew due to her taking care of her mental health. It was at that event where the US Women’s Gymnastics team won the silver medal that they won the hearts of Americans with their resilience and poise.

People began to take notice of Suni Lee with each medal she won. Throughout the Olympics, Lee gained approximately 1.2 million Instagram followers. Many celebrities and other athletes have tweeted about Suni and gave praise with each event that she succeeded in.

Lee's success has been celebrated in her home state of Minnesota. Minnesota governor Tim Walz declared July 30, 2021 to be "Sunisa Lee Day" throughout the State of Minnesota. There was also a parade held in St. Paul to celebrate Suni’s success. The parade was a reflection of the impact that Suni Lee has had in her community and also is a reflection of broader adoration that Suni Lee has earned as part of her Olympic success.

Suni’s success is a reminder that we can all succeed if we work hard enough and stay resilient. No one is more stronger than when they are counted out.

Suni Lee is committed to Auburn University for gymnastics and will be attending the university in the fall. JP Sports has no doubt that Suni will continue her success at Auburn.
