Super Bowl LV: Buccaneers 31, Chiefs 9

Super Bowl LV brought in everything one could expect from a Super Bowl. Great offense, defense, coaching, and all-around team play. Of course, this was the case for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 31-9. This is the second Super Bowl title in franchise history for the Buccaneers.

First Quarter

The game got off to a slow start with both teams punting on their first possessions. The Chiefs then scored the first points of the game on a 49-yard Harrison Butker field goal kick to put the Chiefs up 3-0. The Buccaneers would then hit right back with a touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski. A familiar sight that would occur many times throughout this game. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-3.

Second Quarter

To start the scoring off in the second quarter, Brady and Gronk got to work and connected again for another TD to make the score 14-3 in favor of the Buccaneers. By this time, many were expecting Kansas City to answer back with a touchdown of their own to prevent things from getting ugly for them. The best they could muster was a 34-yard field goal from Harrison Butker to make the score 14-6.

The Chiefs left 1:04 remaining on the clock in the second quarter. This amount of time is an eternity for a quarterback of Tom Brady's caliber. It only took the Buccaneers 55 seconds to get down the field and score a touchdown of a short pass from Brady to WR Antonio Brown to make the score 21-6 Buccaneers going into halftime.

Super Bowl Halftime Show - Performed by the Weeknd

Music superstar The Weeknd was tapped to perform the Super Bowl Halftime Show and he definitely delivered. Performing a plethora of hits such as "Starboy", "The Hills", "Can't Feel My Face", "I Feel It Coming", "Save Your Tears", "Earned It", "House of Balloons", "Glass Table Girls", and finishing the show off with "Blinding Lights". With the exception of his backup dancers, The Weeknd brought out no other special guests and did the show solo. During the performance, The Weeknd had a meme-able moment when he was inside a golden hallway and the camera was going crazy. It was definitely all over social media right after. The Weeknd did what The Weeknd does, and delivered an excellent halftime performance.

Third Quarter

To begin the third quarter, the Chiefs would score their last points of the night - a 52-yard field goal by, you guessed it, Harrison Butker. The score was now 21-9 in favor of Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers answered right back with a touchdown run from RB Leonard Fournette, who has been a key player for the Buccaneers all throughout the playoffs. The score was now 28-9. Two drives later, the Buccaneers scored the last points of the night on a 52-yard field goal kick from Ryan Succop to make the score 31-9 Tampa Bay. At this point, the game seemed to be just about over.

Fourth Quarter

The fourth quarter of the game lacked what the first three quarters of the game had - scoring. The Buccaneers spent the quarter milking the clock while the Chiefs spent it trying to make the game look at least respectable. When the clock hit 0:00, the final score was Buccaneers 31, Chiefs 9.

Final Takeaway

Kansas City Chiefs

It would not be fair to blame the Chiefs' shortcomings entirely on Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs' offensive line was missing Pro Bowl LT Eric Fisher due to an achilles injury. The Chiefs' O-line shortcomings led to Mahomes scrambling for a record 497 yards outside the pocket. It also didn't help that his receivers had trouble getting open.

The Chiefs will take this loss and build off of it. Patrick Mahomes will come back more motivated than ever and will likely be back in the Super Bowl next year. In order to do that, the Chiefs must draft well again in the 2021 NFL Draft on April 29.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This Tampa Bay Buccaneers team were Super Bowl favorites the second they signed Tom Brady last offseason. It also helped that they drafted well in the 2020 NFL Draft, picking up key players in OT Tristan Wirfs out of the University of Iowa and S Antione Winfield Jr out of the University of Minnesota. If the Buccaneers can keep their team together and have another great draft, it would be hard to say that they do not have a chance at repeating as Super Bowl Champions.

This Super Bowl victory is also the 7th Super Bowl win for QB Tom Brady, the most of any player in the history of the NFL. This Super Bowl win only added to the legend of Tom Brady and many arguments were made after regarding if Brady was the greatest athlete of all time. Those type of arguments will be had and people will have their opinions. But you cannot deny the greatness of Tom Brady.
